My best advice would be to always ask plenty of questions, my opinion is there is no such thing as a stupid question, with gaining knowledge I would also recommend building a professional network, yes this can take some time but it's worth it in the long run. It will also help you to become a natural speaker with people engaging or starting conversations. Not everyone is as comfortable reaching out to people they don't know whether that's virtually or face to face, normally it's because they're not really sure where start or even how they start. Networking is certainly a learned skill and it take time and practice. Once you start connecting with people it will just happen naturally and as you start to grow your network, new roles and development opportunities will become more openly available to you. There are some great videos for tips on this on linked-in learning which I would recommend

What do you like about your job and the company?
Being part of a dynamic team is something I enjoy the most about this role, everyone is there for the same goal, to be efficient, find savings wherever possible and having goals that work towards being a more sustainable and environmentally friendly supply chain. I have not worked for a company before that really puts net zero at the top of the agenda, it's something I'm really passionate about so to know that my role can help towards that is really exciting. Through my whole time at Kingfisher working in supply chain has always had the ambition to be sleek and efficient, not just for Kingfisher or the suppliers we work with but making sure our end customers can get what they want, when they want it and how they want it whether it be click and collect, picking up in store or home delivery. Ensuring that our supply chain is maximised to meet those goals and working together to find solutions where we feel it can be improved. Kingfisher listens to its colleagues, and you have a lot of free reign to take and idea and push it forward.
Greatest achievements
I joined a role as a Supply chain planner for a large cruise company, prior to me joining there was no supply chain role per say it was more an order management function, my manager who had also been brought in to set the team up were quite surprised that such a large organisation did not have basic S&OP processes or software abilities to forecast for the many products that we needed to source. As an interim measure to provide our suppliers with a forward forecast I designed using excel a forecast process that would enable to give them visibility in line with their lead times as some products were on a much longer lead time of 4-6mths. By providing a solid base for them to work too, which we would review on a monthly basis, enabled our accuracy to hit as high as 90%. This was a process that when completed I felt really proud of and saw it become a great tool for the supply chain team while the company looked to install a software.

There are better and worse days in my job, but each of them can be considered a success when you work in a close-knit team with people who know what to do. Working in a purchasing office involves a lot of dynamics and decision-making under time pressure. In such a situation, teamwork is the key to success. I see my daily work as a quality engineer as a challenge - new experiences, new people, and unusual problems. There are days when achieving new goals is easy, but there are also moments when every step is bought with a lot of effort. My most important advice for 'beginners': Work with people you can rely on. Set yourself goals that you are capable of achieving. Build good relationships with suppliers.

I came from a heavy scientific background, making unnatural amino acids in the lab (which are all white crystals!) to a world of colour and possibility in food development, and felt really out of my depth. The change to industry was challenging, there were targets and KPIs and OKRs and all the other acronyms! And so many people to work with, challenge, influence... I then went to a retail environment where I felt out of my depth again initially, the pace was faster, there was less thinking time and quant evidence was king. I learned more about myself and decided after a few years to challenge myself again and go to the digital world. I've had a constant thread - understanding customers, employees, users - though the context and environment has shifted every time. And that's a good thing! Don't be afraid to jump at an opportunity, you will always learn something and it will benefit you.
