Group Supply Chain Standards on secondment from Group Supply Chain Specialist
There were many reasons why I chose this company as somewhere I wanted to work, key reasons are, it's a large company which offers many opportunities not just within your own department but within the company as a whole. I have been able to act up into a management position to see if that was a route that I wanted to go down, having the full support of my manager and their management. While I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge I did realise that management wasn't a path I wanted to follow, and I realised I wanted to be more of an SME. My manager was immensely supportive of my choice and helped to engage me in conversations to put me on the path I wanted to go on. I was given the opportunity to be a mentor for new joiners which i really enjoyed, it also gave me a greater understanding of how best to support colleagues and helping someone develop and grow was a real privilege for me, and also something I am very proud of.
I was then allowed to go on a secondment to another department within supply chain joining the Group Supply Chain Standards team. The main role was to support our packaging team in understanding savings made through packaging efficiencies they identified, this has been more challenging as it has never been undertaken before, but again the support offered not only by my manager but also my team was hugely supportive. There are also opportunities to move across into banners, previously coming from B&Q to Kingfisher was able to give me some banner insight when looking at it from a group perspective, which I found hugely helpful to my understanding of how Group and Banners can best work together.
Another attraction for me was the benefits package offered, my key interest is my pension, being able to ensure my future self is protected is something that is very important to me, the offer provided by Kingfisher is nothing I have ever seen before, allowing you to contribute with the company then putting in a % based on the % you input up to 14%. As well as Bupa health, Life cover, Nuffield Gym discount, cycle to work schemes, dental and eyecare, plus other discounts linked to health and well being as well as shares and saving schemes.
Since I joined in 2016, I have never worked for a company quite like Kingfisher, the values they promote around health and well being, diversity and inclusion is something which makes me most proud about working here, and a company I want to continue working for, for many more years to come.
Any advice I would give to anyone looking for a company to work for is to remember that you spend more amount of time at work than you do at home with family and friends so you need to make sure you find a company which matches your key values, I have worked with other large companies prior to Kingfisher and unfortunately they did not have the same values that kingfisher shows to its colleagues and ensuring you have a good work life balance is very important. This is why I chose Kingfisher.
