When I think about the kind of person who would thrive at Kingfisher, I naturally look for qualities that reflect the Kingfisher Behaviours I personally value most: being human, being customer-focused, and taking ownership (be accountable).

Being human means showing empathy, being approachable, and creating a space where people feel safe to be themselves. I look for candidates who are authentic, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent — people who lift others up and contribute to a positive team culture.

Customer focus is essential. I value candidates who are curious about customer needs, who listen actively, and who are always thinking about how to make things better for the people we serve. It’s about having a mindset that puts the customer at the heart of every decision.

And finally, ownership. I admire people who take initiative, follow through on their commitments, and hold themselves accountable. It’s not just about doing your job — it’s about caring deeply about the outcome and being proactive in making things happen.

Of course, behaviours are only part of the picture. A strong candidate also needs to bring the right technical skills and experience for the role — whether that’s analytical thinking, digital expertise, commercial acumen, or operational know-how. These are the foundations that enable someone to perform well in their role.

But it’s the behaviours that elevate a good candidate into a great one. They’re the difference between someone who simply fits the job and someone who truly thrives at Kingfisher.
