One of the most important softer skills to have here is cultural awareness.
We are based across multiple countries and time zones and the ability to be cognisant of that is quite important to having successful teams. I love small talk, asking about weekend plans for example (being from Ireland, small talk is inherent in my way of working) but learned quickly from two of my team who were Polish and Ukrainian that it's not common practice for them! It's learning as you go, not taking things personally and realising we are all trying to achieve the same things for our users.
The other key softer skill to have in spades in a Group Digital function is collaboration. Bringing people on the journey with you, being curious, sharing, discussing, reaching consensus that might not line up with your initial thinking... it all makes for a stronger outcome. Although I'm relatively new to the company, I can see the value in that wider business network to help make things happen!
