Service Transition Manager

Our Operational Command Centre is a highly collaborative environment, even during night shifts. While the role is critical and fast-paced—monitoring the IT infrastructure that powers Kingfisher and all its banners—we maintain a supportive and team-focused culture. Each shift has five dedicated team members, and tasks are clearly delegated at the start of the shift to ensure everyone knows their responsibilities. If anyone encounters challenges, the team is always ready to assist, so no one feels isolated.

Despite the pressure of ensuring uninterrupted service, we foster a relaxed but engaged atmosphere. Shift Managers actively encourage regular tea/coffee breaks and time for food breaks away from screens, while ensuring that critical issues are always prioritized. Many team members take short walks, step outside for fresh air, visit the on-site gym, or even pop to the 24/7 supermarket just a short walk away for snacks or essentials—always balancing well-being with operational demands.

Ultimately, the night shift is about teamwork and communication. We make sure everyone feels supported, and we work together to deliver seamless service and rapid incident response across the Kingfisher IT estate.

Hi Katie,

Thanks for the detailed response! It's reassuring to hear how the Command Centre fosters collaboration, even during late nights and night shifts. Knowing that there are 4 other team members on shift to support one-another makes the role feel much more team-oriented, and it's great to see how there are facilities like the gym, ASDA, and tea breaks to help encourage balance and well-being.

That kind of supportive culture really means a lot to me, and it's encouraging to see how Kingfisher prioritises both operational efficiency and staff well-being.

Thanks again for taking the time to share these insights, it's been incredibly helpful and given me a clearer picture of the team culture!
Jamie
