What is the most valuable thing you have learned from your role?

For me, it's that you don't have to be an expert in the detail to add value...
I come from a varied insight background across FMCG and retail. I'm not a UX specialist, but that more generalist research and senior insight experience has really helped the team. They are the experts in the day to day technical aspects of digital design research, and my role is to shape, ask the right questions to push the thinking, link us in with other business areas to help bolster and challenge our findings and priorities, set us up for success as a centre of excellence.
It's hard sometimes, it takes confidence to say you don't know something when people look to you for direction. Having said that, I've found that people are more than accepting if you say 'I'll find out' or 'I'll have that conversation and come back to you' - and by being honest, you will learn and know more for the next time that topic rolls around.
